Project - Smidstrup, Denmark

The Project is located near the beach in Gilleleje, north of Copenhagen, Denmark. A cottage, built in 1973, is in need of a Master Bedroom with plenty of storage, a more functional Bath and Kitchen, as well as new wall cladding and elimination of the felt floor covering. The Owners require an up-dated, light-filled space with a contemporary look.

Solution

The cottage was completely renovated with new plumbing, electrical, water heater, and fixtures. The two small bedrooms were joined into a larger Master Bedroom with two large closets. A sliding door, a new clerestory window, radiant floor heating, and tile were installed in the Bath. Natural wood cladding was installed, and the existing wood flooring was sanded and varnished. New Kitchen and Bath cabinetry and appliances were installed. New furnishings in light colors complement a few restored Danish antique pieces and personal decorative items.

This Project was awarded 3rd place in the ASID Design Excellence Award 2009-2010, Student Residential Design.
